Frequently
Asked Questions
Q: Can I purchase the Navionics charts from a source other
than X-Traverse.com for use with iNavX?
A: No. Only genuine Navionics charts, subscribed to from www.x-traverse.com
are compatible with iNavX. Charts on Navionics Plug-and Play media will
not work. Charts purchased from iTunes as part of the Navionics Viewer
App will not work.
Q:
Can I use the charts included with my Navionics Mobile App in iNavX?
A: No. Because of the way that the Apple Apps are designed and bundled,
it is not possible to utilize the charts from one App in another App.
Navionics Mobile charts are priced at 1/3 of the price of standard Navionics
charts, but are only licensed for use in one software product residing
on one mobile device.
Q:
Can I use the Navionics charts subscribed to from X-Traverse.com in another
product, such as Fugawi Marine ENC or a Navionics compatible plotter?
No. The Navionics charts from X-Traverse.com are only compatible with
the iNavX App for iPhone. For other purposes, you must purchase
the Navionics charts on official Navionics Plug-and-Play media such
as CF or SD card.
Q:
What is the $10 X-Traverse Data 12-Month Account, and can I purchase Navionics
charts without paying this fee?
The X-Traverse Data 12-Month Account is $10 for a 12-month subscription.
It allows for general access to your X-Traverse.com account as well as
transferring waypoints and tracks between iNavX on your iPhone and your
X-traverse.com account. Also, from iNavX you may request GRIB format weather
files if you have an active X-Traverse Data Account. Fugawi Marine ENC
or MacENC users can also transfer waypoints to and from their PC or Mac
navigation software to iNavX via X-Traverse.com (no cables!). The X-Traverse
12-Month Account is a requirement for subscribing to Navionics charts
for use with iNavX. With one $10 fee, you can subscribe to as many Navionics
regions as you wish.
Q:
Which software products may I use to plot waypoints for use in iNavX?
A: The latest version of any of the following products may be used: Fugawi
Marine ENC, Fugawi
Global Navigator, Navionics
HotMaps Explorer, GPSNavX
or MacENC. Additionally,
waypoints may be created with any software application which supports
GPX or KML format and uploaded to your iNavX software using your web browse.
Q:
Are other maps and charts available for use in iNavX?
A: Yes. iNavX comes with free access to the complete set of NOAA Raster
Navigational Charts® (NOAA
RNC). Other select charts are available via subscription from X-Traverse.com.
Q.
Why should I choose Navionics charts if I already have coverage from the
NOAA RNCs?
A: The choice is yours. However the Navionics charts are generally clearer
to read at varying zoom scales and many people prefer the "look and
feel" of the crisp and clear Navionics charts. For salt water regions
outside of the coastal U.S. or its territorial waters, there are no NOAA
RNC charts. The Navionics HotMaps charts of U.S. freshwater lakes are
the industry "gold standard" with the widest coverage and exclusive
high-definition 1' contours for select lakes from Navionics' own on-the-water
surveys.
Q:
What if I wish to "try before I buy"?
A: Navionics has a free viewer with sample charts of Southeastern Florida
(Miami to Fort Lauderdale) and Northwest Tuscany, Italy. This can be downloaded
from the Apple App Store using your iTunes account. This will allow you
to sample what the charts look like, however some of the interaction with
the charts may be different when using the iNavX software. Unfortunately,
it is not possible to provide a demo version of iNavX software. For a
complete list of iNavX features, see www.inavx.net.
Note carefully that as discussed above, the Navionics Mobile
regions sold on the Apple App Store are not compatible
with iNavX software. You may wish to purchase one or more Navionics Mobile
regions from the Apple App store if that product contains the features
which you desire.
Q:
How do I report missing information for the Navionics chart on my iPhone?
A: Navionics encourages users of all its products to submit feedback regarding
any discrepancies that may be found to ensure that their products are
the best and most accurate available. Your feedback counts! Help to make
Navionics products even better. Click
here to submit your findings.
Q:
How much storage space will iNavX plus the Navionics region(s) consume
on my iPhone?
A: It varies depending on the region you download, but is typically 100-200MBs.
However iNavX permits you to download one, many or all of the individual
maps which make up a region. An individual map file may be between 5 MB
and 90 MB but are typically around 10 to 20 MB.
Q:
For how long can I utilize the Navionics charts which I subscribe to from
X-Traverse.com?
A: You may retain the Navionics region indefinitely. However it is only
licensed for use on one iPhone. When you make your first download to an
iPhone, the map regions is effectively locked to that iPhone. When you
syncronize your iPhone with iTunes (and provided you have enabled synchronization
of the iNavX App), all Navionics charts you have downloaded are also synchronized
as a backup to your PC or Mac and can be restored at a later date should
you need to re-flash or upgrade your iPhone firmware. In addition, X-Traverse.com
guarantees to retain the Navionics regions you subscribed to for up to
two years after your purchase. Therefore you may re-download any map within
any subscribed region as many times as you like (onto the same iPhone)
for up to 2 years, provided you maintain an active X-Traverse Data Account.
Q:
Does iNavX run on the first generation iPhone?
A: Yes, but instead of using GPS positioning, cell towers are triangulated
to compute a location (generally not as accurate as GPS).
Q: Does iNavX run on the iPod Touch?
A: Yes, but instead of using GPS positioning, NMEA data from
a navigation application running on a Mac or PC via the WiFi connection
must be used to determine location.
Q:
Will iNavX run on other non-Apple smart phones?
A: No.
Q:
Is iNavX manufactured by Fugawi Software or Fugawi X-Traverse?
A: No. iNavX is an independent application manufactured by GPSNavX.
Q:
Is there an iNavX user guide?
A: Yes, it is here: www.inavx.net/help/
